"Nama 2" Reading Competition

Sponsored by Sareh Baghdad Primary School, Peta Center for Cultural Services is organizing its annual reading competition, targeting age groups from 7 to 16 years old. The competition will be held in both Arabic and English, given the notable interest and remarkable proficiency of many of our Iraqi children in reading and speaking both languages.

Training sessions for the Arabic language age groups (7-9), (10-13), and (14-16) years started in August 2024, under the supervision of qualified trainers with expertise in education, creative writing, and library management. Participation was promoted through an online registration form, and each participant was contacted to understand their circumstances and ability to commit to the training. Weekly meetings were held at  Young Mutanabi Center in Baghdadi Cultural Center every Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thanks to the free entry to the venue and the free registration form shared on social media platforms, all interested participants were able to easily access the center and benefit from the rich training provided by our dedicated trainers, who tirelessly worked to bring out the treasures of knowledge and excellence from the minds and hearts of our young participants.

The competition management provided a library of around 500 titles, covering various topics such as general knowledge, biographies, encyclopedias, and meaningful stories, in both Arabic and English, catering to different levels. Participants were also supplied with notebooks, stationery, and motivational games. The trainers focused on honing the participants’ skills in reaching qualitative and artistic summaries of the reading materials, preparing them for the competition alongside other requirements.

The collaboration between Sareh Baghdad School and Al-Mutanabbi Junior Center aims to create an educational environment that develops the participants' cognitive and behavioral abilities while reducing the psychological pressure they might experience due to a lack of activities that focus on building their personalities and strengthening their presence, such as this competition.

The competition is scheduled to take place on November 8, 2024, at the Baghdad Cultural Center, with a neutral judging panel present for the first time alongside the participants. The event will be attended by our sons and daughters, filled with hopes of success and victory. We will ensure a joyful and promising atmosphere for all.
